"Upuna" is a monotypic genus of plants containing the single species "Upuna borneensis". The genus name "Upana" is derived from it Iban name UpanAshton, P.S. Dipterocarpaceae. In "Tree Flora of Sabah and Sarawak," Volume 5, 2004. Soepadmo, E., Saw, L.G. and Chung, R.C.K. eds. Government of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ISBN 983-2181-59-3] . The species name "borneensis" refers to its distribution, being found only in Borneo (Brunei, Kalimantan, and East Malaysia). It is a heavy hardwood similar to "Vatica". It is found in the Bako National Park, and has also been recorded from the Kubah National Park. Elsewhere it is threatened by habitat loss.
