PGA West Stadium Course

The PGA West Stadium Course located in La Quinta, California was designed by Pete Dye has been called the "Western Home of Golf." The course was designed to be Dye's answer to the TPC at Sawgrass. The course has hosted a wide range of important golf tournaments and is considered one of the most challenging course in America. Dye's challenging creation was inspired by the Scottish Links-style courses and was at one point was considered one of Golf Digest's Top 100 Courses in America.

Legendary status

The Stadium Course has long been known as the course that was too tough for the professionals. In 1987 it made its first and only appearance as a course in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. After creating a challenging course setup in what is normally one of the PGA Tour's easier tournaments, the tour pros refused to return in 1988 successfully signing a petition to get it removed as one of the host courses.

Probably the most famous shot ever struck at the Stadium Course was Lee Trevino's hole-in-one at the par-3 17th at the 1988 Skins Game.

The most memorable hole is likely the par-5 16th, called San Andreas Fault, which boasts a bunker that is 19 feet deep providing a difficult challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
