History

Unlike many of the post towns that existed during the Edo period before the creation of the Nakasendō, Fukaya-shuku was established to be a part of the Nakasendō. Accessed August 23, 2007.] During the Sengoku period, it was home to Fukaya Castle, belonging to the Uesugi clan. There are still remnants of both the post town's "honjin" and castle today.
