Robert M. O'Neil is the director of the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. He was president of the University of Virginia from 1985 to 1990.cite web

O'Neil, a Boston native, received his undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University. He was a law professor and President at the University of Wisconsin prior to assuming the presidency of the university in 1985, when he was also appointed to a professorship at the University of Virginia School of Law.cite news
