clan since the1st millennium BCE, it was mentioned in Sabaic inscriptions as qayls ofHashid , who later acquired control over a part of Bakil and finally gave their clan name to a tribal confederation includingHashid andBakil .Hamdan branches

Banu Yam settled to the North ofBakil in Najran (today in Saudi Arabia) it also branched into the tribes: theAl Murrah and the'Ujman of eastern Saudi Arabia and thePersian Gulf coast.Banu Kathir
Banu Kathir moved toHadramut in the East of Yemen where they established their own sultanate.Banu Al-Mashrouki
Banu Al-Mashrouki settled in Lebanon producing well known Maronite influential families such as theAwwad ,Massa'ad ,Al-Sema'ani ,Hasroun [ [http://www.hasroun.8m.com/page17.html] Al-Mashrouki in Hasroun] .Banu Al Harith remained inJabal Amil and were mainly Shia.
