submarine-launched ballistic missile developed by theSoviet Union and employed by theSoviet Navy from 1968 through 1988.NATO assigned the missile the reporting name SS-N-6 Serb. In the USSR, it was given theGRAU index 4K10. It was aliquid fuel rocket using ahypergolic combination ofunsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine as fuel and inhibitedred fuming nitric acid as oxidizer.The R-27 missiles were deployed on eg. the Yankee I submarines, including the unlucky K-219.

Two variants, a land based mobile TEL version and a sea-based version was reported to have been developed with the names BM25/Musudan-1.
