Larry Crane is the editor and founder of Tape Op Magazine, owner of Portland’s Jackpot! Recording Studio, a freelance engineer (with sessions in Seattle, Tucson, Brooklyn, Sacramento and New Orleans) and archivist for the Estate of
Elliott Smith .Tape Op Magazine was started in 1996 and has 40,000 readers in the US and 10,000 in the EU and the UK. From 1994 to 1997 he ran Laundry Rules Recording, a home studio in Portland, and recorded artists like Versus,
Stephen Malkmus andCat Power in a basement studio. Since 1997 he has owned and ran Jackpot! Recording Studio, Inc., a busy mid-sized studio in Portland,Oregon , working with artists likeSleater-Kinney ,The Joggers ,Jenny Lewis ,M. Ward ,Go-Betweens ,Elliott Smith ,Stephen Malkmus ,Quasi ,Richmond Fontaine .Crane has spoken on and moderated panels about recording for TapeOpCon,
SXSW ,NXNW ,NARAS , Indie Music Forum andCMJ . He has worked in the past as a record label owner, radio station music director, disc jockey, record distributor employee, freelance music journalist, band manager and bass player in bands since 1984, including Elephant Factory,Vomit Launch , Sunbirds, Foggy Notion and Flaming Box of Ants.External links
