Acorn User

Acorn User

"Acorn User" magazine was founded by Acorn Computers in 1982, contract-published by Addison-Wesley, to coincide with the launch of the BBC Micro. It later became an independent publication, published by Redwood Publishing. It covered the range of Acorn home computers from the BBC Micro, Atom and Electron in the early days to the Archimedes and Risc PC.

In 1989 the name changed to "BBC Acorn User", reflecting the BBC branding of most Acorn computers (and the then ownership of its publishing company, Redwood Publishing). The original title was restored a few years later when the magazine was sold to Europress, coinciding with its January 2004 issue.

The magazine later incorporated Acorn Computing and Archimedes World magazines. Even when compatible hardware was released by RiscStation, Castle, MicroDigital, and Advantage 6 the magazine continued with the Acorn name whilst covering the extended range of hardware.

At the time of its closure in Spring 2005, it was the second-oldest still-published computer magazine in the UK.

In 2004 the magazine was acquired by Finnybank Ltd, which had previously purchased Acorn Publisher magazine: the two magazines were replaced by "Qercus".
