Soane Tonga'uiha

Soane Tonga'uiha

Soane Tonga'uiha is a Tongan born rugby union player. He currently plays for Northampton Saints and the Tongan National team. His position of choice is at loose-head prop, however, he has been known to play at tight-head prop. He made his break at Bedford Blues as he shone in the 2005/06 season, helping Bedford to a 2nd plce finish behind rugby giants Harlequins, and a Powergen Trophy final place which caused Northampton Saints to come calling. He also scored a try against Saints in Northampton's victory over Bedford Blues in the Powergen Cup game in December 2004. He is well known for his large size and feirce runs. Despite his large size, Soane has been known to have a quick burst of fast pace which usually takes his opposition by surprise. He is very mobile for such a big man. He moved to Northampton at the start of the 2006/07 season, and in the Guinness Premiership he did't have too many starts. This frustrated him, as he was being used in development games, which isn't where he wanted to be. However, this season he has excelled at Saints and it has earned him a number of first team appearances as Northampton Saints cruise towards promotion at the end of this year. He often returns to Blues' home games at Goldington Road with his family, he is still a favourite figure at the club. In 2007, he travelled to France as part of the Tongan national rugby team to take part in the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He has 7 caps for Tonga. On a personal note, he married his wife Lucy in the summer of 2006. He has a son named Sonny.
