Douglas Stirling

Douglas Stirling

Dr Douglas Stirling BSc, PhD - a researcher and lecturer at the University of Dundee till 2004. His studies of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae provided an excellent model experimental system due to its genetic tractability, knowledge of its complete genome sequence and the high degree of evolutionary conservation shown by many proteins involved in fundamentally important eukaryotic cellular processes. He applied powerful molecular genetic approaches available in yeast, allied to both biochemical and microscopic techniques to investigate two aspects of yeast cell biology, signalling during stress conditions and morphogenesis and the role of calmodulin.

In 2004 Dr Stirling became a Senior Researcher in the NDAC Clinical Effectiveness Programme at Dundee Dental Hospital and School.
