The Sheep Fiends

The Sheep Fiends is an experimental post-rock band from Chicago. The group maintains the philosophy that music is a social construct, one that brings people together and helps to create social identity. The Sheep Fiends create random improvisational music with a rotating cast of characters, capturing improvisational music experiences in the Chicago area.

Founded in 1992 by DePaul University students Brian Cameron, Brian McNally, and Sid Prise. Several members of the group met at the college radio station WRDP where music director Jim O'Rourke (musician) (music producer and member of Sonic Youth) also worked. Over one-hundred musicians have played in the group, many of them talented and accomplished musicians, actors, writers, poets, and the like. The members of several local Chicago bands have played with the group, including members of The Hidden, Naked Aggression, The Big Bang Experience, and Atomic Jones.

The band is committed to free licensing, and is an early adopter of the Creative Commons licensing, allowing people to freely share music for non-commercial purposes.
