High School Career

Pruitt played high school football at Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio where he was a 4-year letterman at running back and cornerback. Earned All-American 2-way Player honors as a senior and was a 3-time All-Area, All-County, All-Conference and All-City selection. Also garnered All-State honors his final season when he was rated as the 14th-best all-purpose back in the nation by Rivals.com. He rushed for 1,854 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior. On defense, he racked up 45 tackles (35 solo) and six pass deflections. Was also an All-League track athlete in the 100 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay.

College career

In just three seasons at North Carolina Central University, Pruitt became the school's all-time leading rusher with 3,008 career yards. He is the only player in school history to break the 3,000-yard career-rushing barrier and the only player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season twice (2004 and 2005).

Pro career

Pruitt signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a rookie free agent on May 4, 2007.

Personal

Father Greg Pruitt was a five time Pro Bowl selection at running back while playing for the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Raiders from 1973-1984.

Shooting

On Sunday, February 24, 2008, Pruitt was shot in the head during an apparent robbery attempt while visiting the home of his cousin in Shaker Heights. The bullet missed his brain, and after surgery, he was released less than two weeks later on March 5, 2008. To date, Pruitt has completely recovered and resumed normal activities.
