Anghan

Anghan is a surname found in the Patel communities of Gujarat, and though it is rather uncommon, those who bear the name live in tight-knit groups.

People with the surname "Anghan " live in different areas of Kathiavad, mostly concentrated in the Bhavnagar District. Some also live in the villages of Ugamedi, Navagam(Gaiakwadi), and Nari, amongst others.

Many members of this community participated in independence activity of India. One man, Chaganbhai Anghan of Navagam, was very active member of independence activity. He had a strong reputation amongst his fellows, and had a special seat in the Sarkar. He was the leader of local farmers from Navagam, Ratanpar,Monpur. He directly used to communicate with merchant of Vadodara for selling their corps, just to remove middle man profit and benefit local farmers. He died in one of this struggle. He went to Vadodara for fixing the wheat price. That was very tough summer that time. While returning he cought up in cholera and that was his last trip. Chaganbhai had 5 sons.

Mavajibhai Anghan is living in Navagam, with his son Dhirubhai and Mavajibhai's other son Babubhai living in Bhavnagar, Ramjibhai and Mulajibhai living in Surat.Bhagvanbhai is living in Bombay with is sons Rajubhai and Bharatbhai.Up until the 60s and 70s the main source of the Anghan's income was the result of farming. Following this, many relocated to Bhavnagar, Surat or Mumbai, and entered diamond business. Today, many of then are very successful people in the diamond industry. One of the most respected names in the industry is "Dharmanandan Diamond" , founded by Lalajibhai Anghan from Ugamedi. His business has spread internationally to countries like the United States and China.
