East Campus
The East Campus was originally the main campus location of Brown's former neighbor Bryant College. Brown purchased Bryant's campus in 1969 for $5.0 million when the latter school moved to a new campus in Smithfield, Rhode Island. This added 10 acres of land adjacent to Brown's existing campus. In 1971, the area formerly occupied by Bryant was officially designated as East Campus.[cite encyclopedia |last=Mitchell |first=Martha |year=1993 |title=Bryant College |encyclopedia=Encyclopedia Brunoniana |publisher=Brown University Library |location=Providence, RI |id=ASIN|B0006P9F3C |url=http://www.brown.edu/Administration/News_Bureau/Databases/Encyclopedia/search.php?serial=B0670 |accessdate=2007-12-06 ] ]Pembroke Campus
