Rustu Cumhur Oranci (born on October 28, 1960 in Istanbul) is a Turkish writer and literary translator. He left Turkey before the coup d'état of 12 September 1980 and for some time he stayed in Europe and worked for leftist daily Aydinlik. He became a wireless operator on merchant marine vessels and navigated on Egon Oldendorff, (Lübeck, Germany) ships as Radio Officer. He wrote his seafarers memoirs in a fantastic-realistic language in his first novel "Butterfly'in Intihar Seferi" (The suicide voyage of the steamer S/S "Butterfly") published by Telos Publishing House of Istanbul in 1991.
He is currently living in Istanbul and working as a literary translator.
