History

The Roger Butler House on Jordan Lane in the Town of Wethersfield, Connecticut, was built in 1769. It is one of a number of historic houses in the area listed in the National Register of Historic Places, originally owned by the Butler family for more than 200 years.

Architecture

A fine example of colonial craftsmanship, the Roger Butler House shows off wide plank floors, clapboarding, and three fireplaces sharing a common chimney, one of which has a bake/beehive oven. The original colonial structure has been modified by 19th and 20th century elements.

Underground Railroad

The house and outbuildings were once a stop on the underground railroad.
