Regenstrief Institute

The Regenstrief Institute, Inc. is a private, non-profit research organization affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine ( [http://www.medicine.iu.edu/ IUSM] ). [http://www.regenstrief.org] It was founded in 1969 by Sam Regenstrief [http://www.amazon.com/dp/0967265509] .

Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D)

The Regenstrief's efforts in [http://www.academyhealth.org/hsrproj/index.htm HSRProj Health Services Research and Development] [http://www.regenstrief.org/hsrd] efforts are diverse and well published (search on 'Regenstrief' at the National Library of Medicine's [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed PubMed] ). Many of these efforts are in close collaboration with the medical informaticians and affiliated organizations at the [http://www.medicine.iu.edu/ Indiana University School of Medicine] . Regenstrief Medical Record System

Since the 1970's, this group has been developing the Regenstrief Medical Records System ( [http://www.regenstrief.org/medinformatics/rmrs RMRS] ) [http://www.ijmijournal.com/article/PIIS138650569900009X/abstract] , one of the earliest electronic medical record systems (EMR). This system serves as the production electronic medical records system at Wishard Hospital and its community clinics and other institutions.

Open Source Medical Records System

Regenstrief, in collaboration with [http://pih.org/ Partners In Health] (Boston) and [http://www.mrc.ac.za/ MRC] (South Africa), helped to found the OpenMRS [http://www.OpenMRS.org project] , an open source effort to build a framework for electronic medical records development in resource poor areas. Much of the foundational design for the OpenMRS project was gleaned from Regenstrief's decades of experience with electronic medical record systems. OpenRMS was selected as Google Summer of Code 2007 project. [http://openmrs.org/wiki/Summer_Of_Code_2007]
