Station Camp High School (SCHS), located at 1040 Bison Trail, Gallatin, Tennessee, is a public high school that opened in 2002. In 2006, a little over 1,000 students attended the school. Arthur Crook is the current Principal.

History

Station Camp High School was created to ease overpopulation in three Sumner County public schools: Gallatin High School, Hendersonville High School, and Beech Senior High School. It is a four-year high school, but during the first years of operation, juniors and seniors could stay at their schools of origin. Freshmen and sophomores could attend the school an older brother or sister was currently attending.

David Hallman, the first principal, hired staff at a temporary building on the school property while overseeing construction of the plant and facilities. Guidance and administration registered students at the same building. Eventually, the office was moved to the Board of Education building where rooms were prepared for the opening of the 2002-2003 school year. The facility located on Lower Station Camp Creek Road was not completed, so students and staff had to meet at 695 East Main Street in Gallatin. The temporary facility was the former Gallatin Junior High that was being renovated to house the administrative offices of the Sumner County Board of Education. For two months, classes met in former classrooms, portables, and temporary classrooms in the Teacher Center. During those two months, the population exceeded predictions causing some classes to be moved and additional teachers to be hired.

On October 28, 2002, Homecoming was celebrated with a parade that started at the temporary building in Gallatin and finished at the permanent home at 600 Lower Station Camp Creek Road. Classes were transferred to the new building before it was finished. Lunches were delivered each day from Rucker-Stewart Middle School in Gallatin and students were served and ate in three unused classrooms until April 23, 2003, when the cafeteria opened. The gymnasium was not complete and the auditorium was still a large water-filled hole. The year continued with the Theatre Arts performance at the Gallatin Civic Center and basketball games played at Rucker-Stewart. The gymnasium was completed before the end of the year and, on May 23, 2003, 32 seniors crossed the gym floor to be the first graduates of Station Camp High School.

Progress continued through the 2003-2004 school year as the auditorium was completed. Additional vocational and fine arts rooms were also ready for use. Outside, the landscaping was improved, parking areas were paved, and a school sign was erected. Fall 2003 was also the opening date for the main feeder school, Knox Doss Middle School, on adjacent property.

When the 2004-2005 school year began, the building was almost complete except for areas that needed finishing touches by the contractor. The second graduating class had 71 seniors. The fine arts department had grown to include full time theatre and dance teachers, and the vocational department had a new construction program. Academically, three new AP classes were added; since then, one class (statistics) has been dropped from the course catalog.

2006 tornado

SCHS was in the middle of the hardest hit areas during the April 7 tornadoes. The inside of the building itself was relatively unscathed. Outside, only two light poles were blown down on the left side of the building, but damage was sustained to the roof of the gymnasium. Several of the athletic fields were damaged. The baseball and softball fields were destroyed, along with the field house. Additionally, several of the football field lights were toppled, and the school had to provide extra lighting for the 2006 football season. An entire row of trees along Lower Station Camp Creek Road was torn apart, changing the view south of the school.

Station Camp competes in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.

*Cross-CountryAs of 2007-2008 season the boys and girls cross country teams have made it to the state competition 6 of the 6 years the school has been open. Holding one individual state champion (Ryan "Squeaky" Sexton) and multiple region team/individual championships and one team sumner county championship (mens) and several individual sumner county champions.
*Baseball In Basketball schs will graduate a Multiple award winning all-star player John Jenkins. A Mr. Basketball winner his junior year and almost certain to repeat it the 2008-2009 season his last in highschool.

*Football:During 2006, the Station Camp High School football team had a successful season, when compared to its 1 - 9 season in 2005, achieving a record of 10 - 2. This record included the school's second appearance in the TSSAA 3A playoffs as well as its first playoff victory.

:On November 2, the 2007 Station Camp High School football team won their first region championship with a regular season record of 9 - 1. The Bison hosted Meigs County in the first round of the TSSAA Playoffs on Friday, November 9, 2007.

*Track and FieldIn 2007-2008 the track and field team had two teams and two individuals compete in the state finals. They finished with a state championship in the 4 by 8 relay(consisting of John Pszenitzki, Jordan Dykes,Zach Parker,Christian Upchurch) , a fourth place finish in the 4 by 4 (consisting of La'Darius Moore,Christian Upchurch,John Pszenitzki,and Corey Alexander),a eighth place finish in the open 400 meters (La'Darius Moore), and a decathlon eight place finish (Corey Alexander).

tate Championships

Six runners have claimed state championships. Ryne "Squeaky" Sexton (2004) won the Cross-Country State Championship in 2003, and Brandon Byram (2007) won the 200-Meter Dash in both 2006 and 2007. Only one year after Byrams parting the Station Camp 4 x 800 meter relay team(John Pszenitzki, Jordan Dykes, Zack Parker, and Christian Upchurch)smashes the school record with an 8:12.50 and takes the top spot on the podium(2008). Making them the first team/relay state champions in Station Camps history.

Academics

Station Camp High School had a National Merit Scholar in 2006.(Mike Jones)

Clubs

Station Camp is home to chapters of national organizations such as DECA, FBLA, FFA, National Beta Club, and National Honor Society. They also have many other homegrown clubs, like the Japanese Otaku Club, for Japanese Anime lovers, The Athenaeum, a literary club, and the Bison CARE Club, for those against animal cruelty. They also have NOAHS Promise, Spanish Club, French Club, History Club, Chess Club and Science Club.
