Norman Paterson School of International Affairs

The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs was established in 1965 at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, with a grant from Senator Norman McLeod Paterson. It is widely considered to be Canada's premier school for the study of International Affairs.Fact|date=May 2008 In 2007, researchers in foreign affairs at the College of William and Mary in Virginia conducted a survey of foreign affairs scholars in Canada and the US and included a question regarding the "five best terminal masters programs in international relations for a student who wants to pursue a policy career. [http://www.wm.edu/irtheoryandpractice/trip/surveyreport06-07.pdf] . According to the 110 Canadian foreign affairs scholars surveyed, NPSIA ranked tied for second with Georgetown University. NPSIA, nor any other Canadian school, made the list of the best programs according to the American respondents.

It is also a founding member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and home to the Simon Reisman Chair in Trade Policy, and the William and Jeanie Barton Chair in International Affairs.Fact|date=May 2008

NPSIA has the only APSIA certified, professional Master of Arts Degree Program in International Affairs in Canada.Fact|date=May 2008 NPSIA has also recently added Canada's only Ph.D program in that area.Fact|date=May 2008 It also offers a unique joint MA/LLB program in co-operation with the University of Ottawa.

The MA program is organized around seven thematic clusters of study:

*International development
*Intelligence and national security
*Conflict studies
