- Bungalow 8
Bungalow 8 is a
nightclubwhich occupies an old truck repair shop at 515 West 27th Street in New York City. The club is open Monday through Saturday from 11 P.M to 4 A.M. The concierge telephone line can be reached at 212-629-3333.
Founded by Amy Sacco in
2001, the club is modeled after a series of photographs taken by American digital artist and painter Jeremy Blake. The series of photographs was originally titled "Bungalow 8." The interior is replete with Florida palm trees, potted ferns, lanterns, surfboards, vintage Danish furniture, Charles and Ray Eames fabrics, and 10 foot murals. Clients are provided with intimate seating areas and personal waitresses. There is a kitchen located in the venue which serves up late night treats to its guests, one of the most famous being "The Best-Ever Grilled Cheese Sandwich." A concierge service is available for special clients. The " New York Observer" served up a front-page story on December 7, 2006headlined, "A Nightclub Queen Gets Ready to Sell Her Chilly Nightspot." Owner Amy Sacco later revealed in an interview that, "The whole thing is a fabrication." She admits she complained to reporter Spencer Morgan that too many liquor licenses had been issued for her West 27th Street block and that the unwashed masses were scaring away her wealthy, celebrity clientèle. "I had calls from about 800 brokers," Sacco said, "But I'm not selling Bungalow 8."
With partner Ben Pundole, Sacco opened the
United Kingdomversion of Bungalow 8 during September 2007 at the St. Martin's Lane Hotel in Londonwith a series of Fashion Weekparties that drew such people as pop star Prince, Sienna Milleraccompanied by Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, Courtney Love, Ralph Fiennes, Kevin Spaceyand Sophie Dahl.
