Rectal desalination

Rectal desalination

Rectal desalination is a survival technique whereby one gives oneself an enema of seawater. This is used in conditions of extreme dehydration, usually on the oceans; normally the salt content of seawater would hasten death, but presumably the rectum now containing the water will by osmosis absorb the needed pure water into the rest of the body and retain the salt inside the rectum.
