Birgitta Trotzig

Birgitta Trotzig (born September 11 1929 in Gothenburg), is a Swedish writer and was elected to the Swedish Academy in 1993.

Trotzig is one of Sweden's most renowned modern writers, having written several novels in which she gives voice to her Catholic faith and her dark visions. Returning themes are the death and resurrection of love. Among her novels are "Sjukdomen" (made into the movie "Kejsaren" in 1979) and "Dykungens dotter" (1985). She has also written essays and articles on poetry, and works of prose poems: "Anima" (1982) and "Sammanhang" (1996).

Birgitta Trotzig is married to the artist and sculptor Ulf Trotzig.
