Hi Ho Silver was a Number 5 hit in
1986 by Scottish singer/songwriter Jim Diamond. It is best known for being the theme song for "Boon". The song was from Jim's second solo studio albumDesire For Freedom .Although many people believe that Diamond wrote the song especially for 'Boon', he actually wrote it in memory of his father who had passed away the previous year.
Diamond was approached by
Central Television in1985 to write and record the theme song for a new Television Drama Series. Diamond at first declined the offer but Central were persistent. He told them to send a script of thepilot episode so he could read it over. The script was headed "Ken Boon - Fireman". This instantly had him intrigued and he felt that he should do it. His father had been a firefighter for many years. What also lead him to write the song was the fact that Ken Boon (the lead character from the series) was regarded as a "Modern Day Lone Ranger". His father was a fan ofThe Lone Ranger .Diamond told this story during a live performance in 2000 before he began singing the song.
Lyrics
(The following are the exact lyrics as performed by Jim Diamond. The lyrics have often been miss-heardbut these are the lyrics, exactly as they are sang.)
Sometimes I sit yeah, feeling alone
No one to talk to, I got no telephoneAnd at night I wake up, I just lie and stare
C'mon and save me from this nightmareHi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!
Hi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!I know the road I must take, with a wink of my eye
I leave old friends behind like old alibiI take all the throw against me, I'll make a stand
For truth and justice and for the common manHi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!
Hi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!And I guess it took some time
For me to decide, if you were just my hero, or my friend
Watching with my innocent eyes
Your silver stallion ride, across my room I'd listen, as they criedHi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!
Hi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me... rescue me... ooh yeah!(Instrumental)Hi ho silver!
Ooh yeah!
Hi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!
Hi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down, to rescue me!When I was just a child you see
You meant the world to me
I used to wait and sit there everyday
Now you're gone I sometimes cry
I don't even know why
Cause you left me everything I'd ever needHi ho silver! Here come the Lone Ranger
He's riding on down...One day, I'm gonna take that train
And find the kind of love again, to rescue me...(The last two verses are additional verses, only heard in live performances.
The only known recording of this version is on the "Blue Shoes, Live at the Shed" CD which has not yet beenpublicly released. It is only available at live shows.)The song was released as a single in
