John Street Roundhouse

John Street Roundhouse

John Street Roundhouse is a partially preserved railway roundhouse in Toronto, Ontario. Built for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 by Anglin-Norcross to replace the earlier John Street roundhouse built in 1893. It was one of two roundhouses in downtown Toronto (the other being CNR Spadina Roundhouse) It was last used in in 1986. One third of the original structure was dismantled, an underground garage for the Convention Centre built then, reconstructed (1995) and now home to Steam Whistle Brewery. Renovations to the brewery portion were done by William Hurst Architects.

In 2007 the City of Toronto announced two additional tenants would occupy the roundhouse: Leon's Furniture Limited would occupy 15 of the remaining 18 bays and a railway museum would use the 3 remaining bays situated between Steam Whistle and Leon's.
