Concord was founded in 1954 on Kings Rd in
Anderson, South Carolina . When it was founded, it was built as a schoolhouse, not a building. In the mid-late 20th century, Concord Elementary School was built on Calrossie Rd in Anderson. It was a regular school building with many classrooms, but was not air-conditioned. Air-conditioning was soon added, along with other features. Concord was expanded in the late 1990's and is being renovated again.Clubs
Concord has to offer four different clubs. Students can take Art Club, Character Club, Science Club, Robotics Club, Kids on Key, Happy Hive Singers and Running Club. The school has an asphalt track at back of the school that circles the playground. Running Club is Concords most popular club. Hundreds of students participate every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday right after school. Six times around the track is one mile, many students can complete at least two miles in thirty minutes. Kids on Key is a singing club for 5th graders and HH Singers is a singing club for 4th graders. Practice is usually held during related arts on a certain day.
Awards
Concord has received many awards from the district and the state. Concord has received the Palmetto's Finest Award, Exemplary Writing Award, Flagship School of Promise, Red Carpet Award and is a Palmetto Gold Recipient school. Nine teachers are nation board certified. Concord is also one of the top ranked schools in the district. Concord is also one of a few schools in South Carolina that's had 100% PTA for years.
Expansion
Concord underwent expansion in the 1990's. Because of the many residential units being built or planned in the area, especially in the Concord, Midway, and Centerville areas, Concord will be undergoing expansion which will include instructional classrooms, better computer lab, more classrooms, some playground upgrades, a new kitchen, cafeteria upgrades, more parking areas, more security upgrades, interior improvements, and window replacements.
Events
There are many events held at Concord. Awards Day, Writers Guild, 5th Grade Talent Show, Hanna Jazz Band, Field Day, Fall Festival, Student Elections, Terrific Kids, Biography Day, Thanksgiving Feast, Book Fair, Science Fair, Immigration Day,and 50's Sock Hop are some annual events at Concord.
tudent Activities
Students can be apart of Safety Patrol. Safety Patrol manages traffic in the morning and afternoon. Safety Patrol also monitors the hallways. Bus Buddies takes classes to their classroom in the morning. Students can also participate in Student Government, Postal Workers, Buzz Word, and CNN (Concord Network News).
Further Education
Students who go to Concord will also attend McCants Middle School and TL Hanna High School in northern Anderson.
