Uelkal ( _ru. Уэлькаль) is a village ("selo") in
Iultinsky District ofChukotka Autonomous Okrug ,Russia , located approximately km to mi|100|precision=-1 away from the administrative centre ofEgvekinot , at the mouth ofHoly Cross Bay (Zaliv Kresta ). The village has asecondary school , a medical assistant-midwife centre, a pharmacy, a communications centre, and a store. The main sources of livelihood for the residents of this town are hunting seals,walrus , andwhale s.During World War II, this was one stage on the ferry route for US-made warplanes to Russia.
As of 2002, the town had 258 inhabitants, of whom 202 were indigenous people.
