11th Prince of Wales's Own Lancers

= Origin =

The 1st and 2nd Sikh Irregular Cavalry were raised in 1857 by order of Sir John Lawrence, Chief Commissioner of the Punjab. The 1st were originally commanded by Captain Wale of the 18th Bengal Irregular Cavalry, but he was killed on 1st March 1858 and command passed to Major Dighton Probyn.
