César Augusto Cielo Filho (born January 10, 1987 in Santa Barbara d'Oeste, São Paulo) is a Brazilian freestyle swimmer who specializes in sprint events. On August 16, 2008, Cielo won the gold medal in the 50 meter freestyle at the Beijing Olympics (Brazil's first gold of the 2008 games and first gold ever in swimming). He currently holds the NCAA and U.S. Open record for the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events, set at the 2008 NCAA Division 1 Swimming and Diving Championships. Cielo attends Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama where he competes for the 7 time NCAA National Champion Auburn Tigers Swimming and Diving team. At Auburn Cielo has won six National Championship events, including sweeping the 2007 50 and 100 freestyle championships. Cielo has given-up his fourth and final year of NCAA eligibility and is now a professional swimmer.In Brazil, Cielo swims for Esporte Clube Pinheiros.

At the Swimming World Championships 2007 in Melbourne he made the final over 50m and 100m freestyle and got sixth and fourth. At the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won three gold medals in 50m, 100m freestyle and 4x100m freestyle, and a silver medal in the 4x100m medley. At the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Cielo won the bronze medal in the 100m freestyle, tied with American swimmer Jason Lezak, and set the Olympic record on the 50m freestyle during the semifinals (21.34). He lowered this further in the final, winning the gold medal with the time of 21.30, missing the world record by 0.02 seconds.
