Contrary to hydrolytic enzymes, it is a phosphorolytic enzyme, meaning that it usesinorganic phosphate as a cofactor to cleave nucleotide-nucleotide bonds, releasing diphosphatenucleotides . The active structure of the proteins is actually a homohexameric complex, consisting of three RNase PH dimers. [cite journal
