Robbie Dunne is an Irish soccer player he last played for Dundalk F.C. in the FAI First Division.

Robbie Dunne (born: 5 October 1979) first came to prominence playing for UCD in the Premier Division in the late 90s. Robbie made his debut for the students in the 1997/98 season making three appearances, but it was the following year that Dunne really caught the eye, when 26 appearances and three goals from him helped the college side to sixth place. For whatever reason, that was the end of Robbie’s regular involvement in the side, and 18 months and just 13 appearances later, he was sent on-loan to Cobh Ramblers in a strange move. There, he appeared only seven times, and at the beginningof 2001 made a return to his home city when he joined St. Patrick’s Athletic. Once again he struggled to get a look in to first team affairs and was soon on the move when he signed for Drogheda United in the interim season of 2002, where he made 16 appearances in the Boynesiders’ 27 games. That proved to be his only season at United Park and in 2003 he signed forJohn Gill at First Division side, Dublin City. There, Robbie claimed his very first medal at senior level when he played in 31 of the Vikings’ 33 outings on their way to lifting the First Division title.

That should have seen Robbie make a quick return to top flight football, but Gill decided to release the midfielder and in early 2004, he signed for Dundalk for the first time. Dunne lined out in a variety of positions under both Trevor Anderson and Jim Gannon that season, and made 32 appearances for the club as they finished in a disappointing sixth place. Robbie had scored his very first goal for the club in a 3-3 draw in Terryland Park on 16 July 2004, but it was his contribution in the 3-2 win over Bray Wanderers at the end of that season that most fans will remember. On 4 November, Robbie fired Bray in front with an early own goal, before he grabbed two second-half goals at the right end as Dundalk fought back from 2-0 down with 22 minutes to go to win 3-2. At the start of 2005, Dunne was offered a Premier Division contract by Pat Devlin at Bray Wanderers, but after fourteen appearances for the Seagulls, the midfielder returned to Oriel Park for the 2006 season.

In 2006, Robbie made 32 appearances and scored three goals, including two important away goals against Cobh Ramblers and Kildare County on the league run-in, as John Gill’s side recovered brilliantly from a disastrous start to finish runners-up to Shamrock Rovers. Robbie stated near the end of last season that he would not be playing football in 2007 unless it was with the Lilywhites, and whenever he has been called upon this season, the Dubliner hasn’t disappointed. Robbie has been employed mainly as a central and right-sided midfielder in his time at the Carrick Road venue, although he has also provided cover at the centre of defence. Robbie has become a fans favourite for his displays for the Lilywhites, as he consistently gives 110% for the jersey.
