vitéz Hindy de Kishind (born 1890; died 1946) was an officer in the Hungarian Army duringWorld War II .Colonel-General Hindy commanded the Hungarian I Corps from16 October 1944 to12 February 1945 .From
29 December 1944 , Hindy also commanded the Hungarian defenders ofBudapest during theBattle of Budapest . On11 February 1945 , Hindy was captured by theSoviets trying to escape just prior to the fall of the city on13 February . The commander of the German defenders of Budepest,Waffen SS General Karl Pfeffer-Wildenbruch , orchestrated the breakout attempt and was also captured.Hindy was sentenced to death after the war. In 1946, he was executed.
