Peter Atwill Griffith (October 23, 1933 - May 14, 2001) was an American film actor.

Griffith was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Hilda (née Atwill) and Ben E. Griffith. His mother managed his acting career as he worked as a child actor, appearing on Broadway a few times. [ [http://www.ibdb.com/person.asp?id=93309 Internet Broadway Database: Peter Griffith Credits on Broadway ] ] Griffith is known for appearing in the 1978 horror film "Halloween", taking the role as Laurie Strode's foster father, Morgan Strode, in the beginning of the film, getting in to his car and telling Laurie he left the Myers' house key under the mat.

Personal life

Griffith was married three times: first to Golden Globe-award winning actress Tippi Hedren from 1952-1961, with whom he had a daughter, actress Melanie Griffith. He then married actress Nanita Greene, and together they had two children, Tracy Griffith (also an actress) and Clay A. Griffith (a production designer). Griffith then married Debra Meyer Boyd and remained with her until his death.

Griffith died aged 67 on May 14, 2001, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. According to the Internet Movie Database, he died of 'complications from emphysema'. He was interred at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe.
