"Epitonium perplexum" is a species of medium-sized predatory sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Epitoniidae, the wentletraps.

Distribution

This species is endemic to southern Australia, the Hawaiian Islands, Raoul Island, the Kermadec Islands, and the northeast coast of the North Island of New Zealand.

Habitat

This wentletrap is found on rocks on the open coast.

hell description

The shell is moderately large and solid, basally obese, non-umbilicate, sculptured with stout longitudinal lamellae, varying between 9 and 13 per whorl; otherwise smooth, except for a weak basal spiral rib. The aperture is oval, the peristome thickened, except for a thin parietal callus.

The shell coloration is white and usually has dark brown color at the sutures.

The shell height is up to 32 mm, and the width up to 13 mm.
