Jack Lind , who left due to health problems. His position was filled on an interim basis by pitching coachWayne Garland until former managerGeorge Scherger , manager of the 1979 Southern League championship Sounds, was brought in. He retired after one game and was replaced byJim Hoff , who stayed a few days before taking up a position with the Reds' front office. Finally, former Texas Rangers managerFrank Lucchesi was hired to lead the Sounds for the rest of the season.Trent Jewett won a total of 320 games from 1998 to 2000 and 2003 to 2004, placing him first on the all-time wins list for Sounds managers. Having managed the team for 624 games, he is also the longest-tenured manager in team history. The manager with the highest winning percentage over a full season or more isStump Merrill , whose .622 winning percentage is fifth on the all-time wins list for Sounds managers.
