Susan Ivey has guided Reynolds through its integration efforts following the July 2004 merger ofR. J. Reynolds and Brown & Williamson Tobacco.Ivey started as a
Sales Rep. and went on to becoming theCEO at Brown & Williamson Tobacco, where she started in 1981. She became the CEO at Reynolds American in 2004 after merging with Brown & Williamson Tobacco and was promoted to chairman in January 2005.With more than 20 years of U.S. and international experience, Ivey served as head of international brands and earlier as director of marketing in China for British American Tobacco.
Ivey joined Brown & Williamson Tobacco in 1981 as a sales representative, and held various trade and brand positions, including division manager and brand director, prior to her international assignments in 1990. She returned to Brown & Williamson in 1999 and served as senior vice president of marketing and a member of the company's executive committee prior to her elevation to president and CEO in January 2001. Ivey assumed her current positions with R. J. Reynolds and became president and chief executive officer of Reynolds American in 2004. She became chairman of Reynolds American in January 2006.
Ivey serves on the Women’s Leadership Initiative for the United Way of America. She is a member of The Business Council, as well as The Committee of 200, an international organization of women CEOs, entrepreneurs and business leaders who provide mentoring, education and support for aspiring women business leaders. She is a board member of Bellarmine University, Winston-Salem YWCA, Wake Forest University, University of Florida Foundation and the Winston-Salem Alliance. She is also on the Board of Advisers for the Center for Women in Business and Economics at Salem College.
