Maine State Music Theatre

Maine State Music Theatre

The Maine State Music Theatre is a performing arts organization based in Brunswick, Maine, United States. Founded in 1959 as the Brunswick Summer Playhouse, it became a non-profit in 1970. In 1988 it changed to the current name to reflect its growing area of patronage. Governor John R. McKernan recognized the organization that year for its longevity, as the number of Equity theatres in the state had dropped by half, and few theatres nationwide remained exclusively musical-based.

As of 2007, despite rising housing costs, the theatre made a commitment to remain in Brunswick, rather than accept an offer to move to the University of Southern Maine's Gorham campus.

The theatre presents a summer season of four fully staged musicals, several children's musicals, and related special events.
