CPV-TV was a company which had bid for three
ITV franchises at the .It was a consortium led by Sir David Frost and
Richard Branson and had bid for theEast of England , London Weekday and the South and South East England franchises which were then held byAnglia Television ,Thames Television andTelevision South respectively. The intention of the consortium was to create a centralised service for these three franchises with a generic presentation package.However it had lost each of these bids due to being outbid by
Anglia Television for the East of England franchise with Anglia Television succedding with a bid for £17,800,000. In the London Weekday region despite bidding the highest in an undisclosed sum it had been declined the London weekday franchise on quality grounds with the successful bidder beingCarlton Television which had beat the incumbent Thames Television by £43,200,000 against Thames's £32,700,000. Finally for the South and South East region it had lost out to successful bidderMeridian Broadcasting which had bid £36,500,000 against CPV-TV's £22,100,000 (and the incumbent franchise Television South losing on grounds of business plan as a result of bidding £59,800,000.External links
