Macero Dominatus

Macero Dominatus

Macero Dominatus is a little known and historically obscure secret order. The direct translation of the name is "Macero: to soften, weaken, reduce, torment," and "Dominatus: rule, mastery, tyranny, domination." [sunsite.ubc.ca/LatinDictionary/HyperText/latin-dict-full.html] It is probable that the organization meant to weaken tyranny. Its roots are found deep in the lost Hungarian Royal Society which is odd as the order's title is in Latin. Evidence exists that during the Holy Roman Empire's ("Sacrum Romanum Imperium") conquest of Europe, Latin monks preaching the new word of the 'Lord' became a part of the court and it is probable that they educated the court in Latin. [ [http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/catholic_historical_review/v089/89.3toth.pdf Project MUSE ] ] Evidence buried in the archives of Budapest's CEU (Central European Library) suggest that the order was formed to preserve the truth of the gospels and to undermine the tyranny of the Empire.Gorasz, Platza. "Personal Diary," CEU, Budapest: circa 1298] This information comes from frail works that make mention of the 'order's' name, but these were written in Sermo Sup Sepulchrum or the 'Old Hungarian Language' ["The Crosslinguistic Study of Language Acquisition, Volume 4, ed. Dan Isaac Slobin: University of California at Berkeley] and is very difficult to read. [users.tpg.com.au/etr/oldhu/halotti.html] Ultimately, what can be academically ascertained from these pages, is that the order was the ultimate protector of the truth and perhaps even the first ever true society defending human rights. Strangely, it has been resurfacing in the present. Evidence abound about certain individuals of prominence who have been contacted randomly, presented only with a olden styled business card and a logo ["Mystery Card," Toronto Star, editorial, June 29th, 2007, A12] . Nothing else was added to the message, just the logo. I am one of those people that have been contacted, but I am writing under a pseudonym so that I don't give away who I am and potentially jeopardize any opportunity with the order.

History

As already mentioned, Macero Dominatus was potentially conceived sometime during the reign of the Holy Roman Empire, but before the Habsburg Empire. Gorazs dated his journal 1298. A group of landowners -as the Hungarian gentry and rulers were powerful landowners- were the ones to come together over this objective. [Hungarian and Vogul Mythology: By Géza Róheim. (Monographs of the American Ethnological Society, No. XXII, edited by Esther S. Goldfrank.) (New York: J. J. Augustin, 1954. Pp. x + 86.] It was not permitted to photocopy the two texts handled in the archives because they were deemed 'rare' (which they were of course) and the light would have compromised the material. Notes on Gorasz's journal indicate however, that the gentry most likely spoke some version of 'old Hungarian' or some regional mix of the languages as early Arabic was of some influence as well. How they came up with Mecero Dominatus as the potential title of their order probably originated during the Habsburg Empire when there was a substantial effort to Catholicize the Austro-Romanian-Hungarian region and 'protect' it from Islam. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_nobility] So, the order must have been loosely held for over four hundred years for the gentry to learn Latin and conceive the title. There was one set of loose papers in a dilapidated binding that made mention of some gentry's son going to Rome for education. [Anonymous, loose papers, circa~3rd century, CEU Budapest] Perhaps clerics were not the ones responsible for bringing Latin to the order but a member's son.

Another question arises: why Latin? It would seem that if the order was firstly a grassroots local gentry campaign to most likely protect themselves and their people from imperial abuse, that they would keep it to their own language. But if the reader will permit, one believes a little educated guessing could explain. Language, as one well knows, is power. English is a business language and also a language of power as some of the world's most powerful countries use it as their first language. Latin from the Roman era to the Renaissance was the common voice. Although the Habsburgs were Franco-Germanic, they still used Latin as one of the mediums of communication. Perhaps, the order wanted to gain allies who were connected but not in line with the Empire. Or maybe they wanted to let the Empire know better of their existence. It really is aggravating to speculate so much, those contacted must share the same frustration.

The order probably never resorted to violence. [Gorasz, Anonymous, Antonicz "Letters to Slobanov," CEU Budapest, circa 14th century] Now to many historians this would seem amazing. Power, from the Classic period to WWII, was exerted through the use of coercive force. Even monks were warriors during the Crusades and Inquisitions. So why are there no rumors of great battles with banners and slogans and mass movements related to the order? This society may have been above violence.

As for how the order continued to this day, there is no evidence supporting its continuation even passed the Habsburg era.
