Cardinal Gibbons High School (CGHS) is a college-preparatory, co-educational high school of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. We embrace the mission of Jesus Christ: to form men and women of faith, service, and leadership in church and community.Facts about Cardinal Gibbons High School:founded 1909, 1,163 students, Jason D. Curtis, Principal, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, member of the National Catholic Educational Association and the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools, seventy-nine faculty members, 70 percent of whom possess at least a master’s degree, nearly all of our graduates attend colleges and universities, some 157 Academic Courses, including college preparatory, Honors and AP classes, a Fine Arts Program, featuring more than 40 different classes, member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, over 30 sports teams,over 50 different clubs and activities.
Athletics
Cardinal Gibbons has a history of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. In 2007, the school was recognized as one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the nation. Seventeen student-artists received 21 Gold and Silver Key Awards at the 2008 Scholastic Art Awards for Eastern/Central North Carolina. In the three years since its acceptance into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), Cardinal Gibbons has maintained that tradition of excellence. In the 2007-2008 school year Cardinal Gibbons captured seven state team championship titles as well as the NC Wachovia Cup, its seventh since 2001. In addition, all but one Cardinal Gibbons athletic team made the NCHSAA playoffs, including the baseball team for the first time since joining the public school league. Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker proclaimed December 4, 2007, as Cardinal Gibbons Champions Day.
