Susan Bassnett

Susan Bassnett

Susan Bassnett is a noted scholar of comparative literature. She serves as pro-vice-chancellor the University of Warwick and teaches in its Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies, which she founded in the 1980s. Educated around Europe, she began her career in Italy.

Among her more than twenty books, several have become mainstays in the field, especially "Translation Studies" (1980) and "Comparative Literature" (1993). Her most recent book, co-edited with Peter Bush, is "The Translator as Writer" (2006). A book on Ted Hughes is due to appear this year. In addition to her scholarly works, Bassnett writes poetry.
