The Islamic Party of Azerbaijan ("Azərbaycan İslam Partiyası") is a political party in Azerbaijan.The IPA was founded in 1991 in the village of Nardaran, a stronghold of conservative Islam in Azerbaijan, and was officially registered in 1992. Its registration, however, was cancelled in 1995, and has not been revoked since.
It advocates stronger ties with Iran and rejects the ideas of pan-Turkism, regarding them as dangerous and utopian [http://www.jamestown.org/publications_details.php?volume_id=7&issue_id=436&article_id=3753] .The IPA is also anti-USA, anti-zionist and anti-EU and supports Hezbollah and its leader Hassan Nasrallah [http://www.today.az/news/politics/28736.html] .
