Dedhgaun

Dedhgaun

"Dedhgaun" is a village in Nepal. It lies on the bank of the Holy Kali Gandaki River and is surrounded by mountains in all sides.

To its west, there lies Singhtari. The literal meaning of which is Singh= Lion and Tari= plane. So it can be inferred that in the past it has been home for the king of the beasts. The SENTAR which resembles an island is the most beautiful treasure of Singhtari and indeed Dedhgaun. In the past deforestation has threatened its existence but thanks to the people of Singhtari. Their unmatched efforts for conservation has finally born fruit. Now the figure of SENTAR is dramatically changed. It used to be grazing fields in the past, but now it is covered again with dense forest. Different rare species of the birds along with other mammals like leopards, foxes, porcupines, monkeys etc are now common to this area.

Diyabari is also one of the significant place in Dedhgaun. It also lies within Singhtari and is famous for its water spout. People have benefited significantly from this resources in the past like fetching pure water for drinking, cooking purposes, bathing, cleansing etc. Nowadays, people occasionally give a visit to this historic place, thanks to the tap water system in each household.

Lasune, which was also an indispensable part of Singhtarian people at the past is in the brink of extinction. It was famous for its cold and sweet freshwater throughout the regions. But due to negligence, floods and other human induced causes, it is almost unrecognisable. If people don't act now to conserve it, it will be out of history as well in near future.

Another significant place in Dedhgaun and in fact in Singhtari was CHAUTARI. This palace catered as a meeting place of all sorts of activities (official/unofficial) like administration, religious, political, entertainment etc since past century. But due to lack of knowledge and human selfishness, this is the most endangered place as listed by "Endangered watchdog, Singhtari 2007".
