Jennifer Anne Hillman (D-IN) was nominated to the
International Trade Commission by PresidentBill Clinton in March 1998 and confirmed by theU.S. Senate onJuly 30 1998 . She was sworn in as a member of the Commission onAugust 4 1998 , for a term expiring onDecember 16 2006 . Hillman served as Vice Chairman of the Commission fromJune 17 2002 , throughJune 16 2004 .George W. Bush nominatedDean A. Pinkert (D-VA) to succeed Hillman at the end of her tenure.Commissioner Hillman served as General Counsel to the USTR (
United States Trade Representative ) from 1995-1997, where she was responsible for a wide variety of trade matters, including all U.S. government submissions in dispute settlement cases pending before both theWorld Trade Organization andNorth American Free Trade Agreement panels, as well as all legal work done in connection with trade negotiations.Prior to that position, she served as Chief Textile Negotiator with the Rank of
Ambassador for the USTR. As Chief Textile Negotiator, Commissioner Hillman was responsible for negotiating bilateral textile agreements with 38 countries in 1993-1994. Prior to joining the USTR, Commissioner Hillman served as the Deputy Cluster Coordinator for Financial Institutions for the Presidential and Vice Presidential transition.Pre-government career
She served as Legislative Director and Counsel to (now-deceased) U.S. Senator
Terry Sanford of North Carolina. She was responsible for trade issues, as well as matters coming before the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. She began her professional career as an international trade attorney in the prestigious firm of Patton, Boggs LLP. She is also an adjunct professor of law at theGeorgetown University Law Center and serves annually on the selection committee for Truman Scholars.Originally from
