Henry S. Noyes

Henry S. Noyes (December 22, 1822May 24, 1870) was a president of Northwestern University. Henry Sanborn Noyes was born in Vermont. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1848, 9 years after Clark T. Hinman, the first president of Northwestern. After Hinman's departure from Newbury Seminary in Vermont in 1853, Noyes became president.

Noyes was one of the two original faculty members of the University when it opened in 1855 and served as professor of mathematics. Hinman, the first elected president of the University, died in 1854, and Noyes served as interim president until the election of Randolph S. Foster in 1856. Noyes also served as interim president from 1860-7.
