February 21 ,1987 ) is a professional Chilean footballer who started his career as a centre midfielder inCoquimbo Unido and has already captained Chile's U-20 and U-23 sides and . OnJune 1 , 2008, he was bought by Italian Serie A club,Reggina , where he is expected to play until 2012.Although Carmona is an extremely young player, he has bags of talent and experience. He was Chile's youngest player at the
2005 U-20 World Cup in Holland where he showed unbelievable talent in Chile's opening game, a 7-0 win against Honduras. Only a couple of years after he captained Chile to the2007 U-20 World Cup where he played excellent games in the 3-0 win against Canada, 3-0 win against Congo, 1-0 win against Congo, 4-0 win against Nigeria and 1-0 win against Austria. He led Chile to a historic bronze medal. However, his international success would continue as Chile's senior side's world-renown coach
Marcelo Bielsa quickly took note of his tremendous displays for his club,O'Higgins and quickly called him up for the2008 Toulon Tournament , the most prestigious U-23 football event in Europe. It was there where Carmona really stepped up and led Chile to the silver medal after beating France 5-3, the Netherlands 2-0, Japan 2-0 (where he scored from an amazing volley from 40 yards out) and Cote d'Ivoire 2-1. Unfortunately, he missed the final due to a questionable yellow card in the dying minutes of the semifinal where Chile fell 1-0 to Italy. His performances in Toulon won him a spot in Chile's starting 11 for the past two World Cup Qualifying (South Africa 2010) games - away victories against Bolivia (2-0) and Venezuela (3-2). Having started on both occasions as the team's only defensive central midfielder, Carlos Carmona's performances were celebrated by observers
