" Baller Blockin" is a 2000 action/comedy film. The movie is set in New Orleans 3rd Ward, specifically in and around the Magnolia Projects.

Main Characters

Tanuk

Tanuk is "cold and heartless to this day" because of witnessing his father's murder at a young age. He has a girlfriend named Nettie who stays by his side. She tries to get him to stop dealing drugs but he says no because he is a "soulja". He understands why Nettie is worried about him, because he is in a cold game and there is nothing nice in the Magnolia Projects. He never trusts the law and he doesn't care what they say or try to be. He wants to do right in life but is often forced to choose to ride or quit the game. His girl Nettie is later kidnapped by a crooked cop named Curlyhead and threatens to kill her if the Cash Money Millionaires don't give him the dope.

Beatrice

Beatrice (male-hard muhfukka) is the leader of the Cash Money Millionaires gang and basically runs the Magnolia Projects. He is the administrator of the gang's narcotics distribution ring: he makes sure that all his people are "straight" and all the drugs are of sufficient quality and properly supplied. His girl is never seen in the movie but is mentioned. He tells his boys that his girl is saying that he is working too hard but he doesn't care because he is "hustling" to get rich, so he can feed her steaks instead of "peanuts and shit." He has a feud with Curlyhead who tries to take over the Magnolia because he is greedy (The gang used to bribe him with drugs and money but he wanted a bigger cut of both).

Iceberg Shorty

Iceberg Shorty is oftem seen with Beatrice in the Magnolia projects. Early in the movie, he and his boys beat up somebody who worked for Curlyhead which made the cops come with sirens flashing. When that happens, Iceberg runs away and into a store and, ironically, hides in a freezer. Because of the "G Code" the store clerk didn't tell the cop where Iceberg Shorty was hiding. Iceberg Shorty is portrayed as the hardest, most brutal character of the movie. It is also noted that he is a talented and quick rising rapper.

Chopper

Chopper is another member of Tanuk's set. He was involved in the jumping of one of Curlyhead's workers and was about to kill him but the cops came. Instead of running with Iceberg Shorty or Tanuk, he ran with Teke and ended jumping in the back of a Mustang occupied by three women. Later in the movie, he is informed by one of his friends that Curlyhead was trying to shut down their operation. Later in the movie, Chopper finishes Garr off by shooting him in the head (after the other gang members shoot him several times in the chest).

Teke

Teke is another Cash Money Millionaire. While he and Chopper are in the Magnolia Projects, the cops come to ask them questions about where Beatrice is and where the dope is coming in. Teke tells the cop that he is not a snitch and he can arrest him if he wants to. In the movie, Teke and Beatrice confront the man who passes out the checks in the Magnolia Project. Beatrice tells the man that the block is hot and he wanted to know if he seen the cops around. He then tells the man to pass the checks out on time and the man gets smart. Teke loses his cool and shoots the man to death on the spot. He flees from the scene with Beatrice, stopping briefly to hand the bag of welfare checks to a random little boy, instructing him to pass them out to the project's residents. Later on in the movie Teke and Iceberg Shorty rob a jewelry store because they wanted all the "Bling Bling".

Themes of the Film

The G Code

"The game is cold, but it's fair, nigga." This is the mantra by which Tanuk and all of the Cash Money Millionaires live their lives. The way The Game functions is governed by the G code. The G code is the informal, unwritten social mores of the streets - you live by it, and you die by it. The essence of The Game is that you control as much of the projects as you can and deal drugs to its inhabitants -- and you always handle your own business amongst yourselves, avoiding contact and cooperation with the police. When a gang has a great deal of influence over a certain area (and its drug trade), it is said that they've "got that work". Business typically picks up when the welfare checks are passed out; the recipients cash them and spend the money on drugs. It's important to never "catch a drought" by letting your drug supplies dwindle, hence they "re-up" at least once a month.

Dealing

Not all inhabitants of the Magnolia projects can afford all the drugs they want. So they might "come at you with that left hand shit", that is, try to shortchange you during a drug deal. If they have a good rapport with you, or you are a kindhearted dealer like Iceberg Shorty, you might decide to give them some credit or cut them a deal. However, Tanuk is less generous and claims he is quick to "bus' yo' head" should his buyers attempt this.
