Doctor Who story chronology

Doctor Who story chronology

This article outlines the fictional timeline of the stories from the entire Doctor Who saga, listed in chronological order from the perspective of the Doctor, the fictional character starring in the long-running award-winning British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC. These stories feature a renegade Time Lord, the Doctor, in his various travels in the TARDIS, his time machine and spaceship. As a time traveller, he personally experiences events in an order other than that of historical chronology.

The list includes the character's adventures in the "Doctor Who" television serials as well as stories from spin-off media, specifically novels and audio productions. The non-television stories frequently reference each other as well as specific television episodes in ways which indicate where they would fall in chronological relation to when the televised stories are set.

While not all of these stories' settings refer to any definite historical date, and have no distinctly recognisable chronological place relative to Earth years B.C. or A.D., they are known to occur in a given order relative to the personal experiences of the Doctor himself. Because stories in different media or from different publishers do not always indicate precisely when they occur relative to all other stories, their placement in the Doctor's personal timeline has been approximated by external sources. Unclear placement

While these adventures feature television Doctors, they are of debated canoncity, and there are different attempts to bring them into the timeline.
