- Edenton Steamers
The Edenton Steamers is a
baseball team competing in theCoastal Plain League . [http://www.edentonsteamers.com/about] The team plays its home games at Historic Hicks Field, which sits adjacent to John A. Holmes High School inEdenton, North Carolina . The wooden grandstand of Hicks Field is the only one of its kind remaining in North Carolina today. It was also ranked the second best collegiate baseball facility byBaseball America in a 2004 article. Hicks Field was the site of the 2001 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game. Hicks Field, which seats roughly 1,000, is the smallest field in capacity and in regards to outfield dimensions within theCoastal Plain League with dimensions of 300 in left field, 350 in center field and 298 in right field. Hicks Field also has one of the few remaining operating wooden scoreboards in the state. The Steamers play a 56 game schedule with 28 home dates. The Steamers play in the fourteen team Coastal Plain League and is a part of the Northern Division of the League which comprises theOuter Banks Daredevils ,Peninsula Pilots , and thePetersburg Generals . Other teams in the CPL include theWilson Tobs ,Wilmington Sharks ,Fayetteville Swampdogs ,Florence Red Wolves ,Columbia Blowfish ,Thomasville Hi-Toms ,Asheboro Copperheads ,Martinsville Mustangs ,Gastonia Grizzlies , and theForest City Owls . The Steamers were formed in the second year of Coastal Plain League summer baseball league in 1998. The Steamers have had much success as of late and have won the 2004 and 2005 Coastal Plain League championships. The Steamers have been in the in the Petitt Cup Championships the past four years.Opening Day for the 2008 Edenton Steamers will be May 28th at the
Outer Banks Daredevils and then the home opener the following day on May 29th against thePetersburg Generals .Alumni
