First Baptist Church (Houston, Texas)

First Baptist Church, is a megachurch located at at the corner of I-10 (Katy Freeway) and the West Loop in Houston, Texas. It is an evangelical, Christian church, and is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Rev. Gregg J. Matte has been Senior Pastor of the church since 2004. He succeeded Dr. John R. Bisagno, who pastored First Baptist from 1970 - 2000. Reverend Gregg Matte attended Texas A&M University, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Kelly and they have one son, Greyson. Gregg is also the founder of Breakaway Ministries. Internationally-known Bible teacher Beth Moore, founder of Living Proof Ministries, is also a member of the church.

History

First Baptist Church was organized in 1841 by sixteen people. It was initially located in downtown Houston, but relocated to the West Loop in 1977 under the guidance of Dr. Bisagno. It is a church that anyone can join.
