Kafabindünya is a post-rock, drone-metal, noise-rock band from Istanbul, Turkey.

The band is famous in the Turkish underground scene because of their "hypnotic" live shows and shocking high volume. The band composes and plays instrumental music. According to the band's songwriter/guitarist Burç Tuncer, lyrics limit the story that the listener imagines for the song. Kafabindünya composes because they want the listener to imagine his/her own story and use their music as the soundtrack of their own fiction. Only the edges of their imagination with -only- the names of the songs.

In 2006, the band opened the "Phonem by Miller" festival as the support band of Mogwai. The band continues to play live locally.

All in all, "Kafabindünya" is now an art project, more than an avant-garde band. Sometimes they produce visual material in harmony with their music. Their live shows are like not only a rock band performing in the stage, but an experimental experience.

History

Burç Tuncer started playing guitar at 12. He played drums in a grunge band, and he formed Sleeping Vaccines. He decided to play guitar and piano to compose instrumental music. He recorded demo, "öcü", which received some attention. He heard the demo of the band Ayyuka which Burç liked, while bringing some "öcü" CDs to the local music store. Later they got in touch online and got close friends with Ayyuka drummer Alican Tezer but somehow they lost contacts. Studying to enter the fine arts academy, he suspended his music career for a year or so.

Burç discovered the Japanese post-rock band Mono in a music festival. Shocked by the genre, he restarted "Kafabindünya" as a band. Guitarist Aybars Turan and drummer Mert Susur joined the band. Özgür Can joined the band as a bassist. The quintet played at small shows and some university festivals. Then the band decided to split up because of some musical and personal problems.

In 2004, a member of the band DDR asked Burç to play with Kafabindünya in an organization with Change of Plans and DDR. Burç re-united the band with Deniz Yoldüz on drums, Kağan Yavuz on bass, and Onur Balaban on guitars. Orçun Baştürk was in that show and loved the music of "kafabindünya". The band started to play at Peyote, a pub and this brought them some fame in Istanbul. Drummer Deniz Yoldüz and bassist Kağan Yavuz were replaced by Berkan Tunçludemir and Orçun Baştürk; bassist Berkan Tunçludemir was replaced by Emrah Bekdikli. These days kafabindünya also featured a "realtime visual artist" Gökçe Erverdi for live shows. Playing as a "solid" band for a time, a stressful era for the band began. Some musical and personal problems existing in the band silently, drawn Burç to make a choice between his music career and replacing some members; he chose the former at first, but was later encouraged to reform the band. Guitarist Onur Balaban, visual artist Gökçe Erverdi, Emrah Bekdikli and bassist Özgür Can left the band.The band has been stable since then.

Even though the drums on the first album are played by Orçun Baştürk (from the band Replikas), Berke Özcan is the current drummer of the band by the time of this entrywhen.
